This is it folks, the one I've been promising for many years now. It's not much (it's not even both sides of a piece of notebook paper), but this is my first slash sex scene and sadly probably the most explicit one I've written to date. That's not why this story is special to me, though. A few years after I'd written this fic and stashed it away, I walked into my bedroom and discovered my mother holding it in her hand and reading it, much to my horror. Now, my mother is a pretty damn cool person (ask me to tell you the cock ring story sometime if you don't believe me), but - still! I'm not sure to this day what mortified me more - that my mother was reading a Star Trek sex fic that I'd written, or that the sex fic in question was so poorly written that I wouldn't even put my name on it. Well, here's my name. As for my mother - she put the paper down, looked at me and said, "Whatever gets you off" and went back upstairs. We haven't really spoken about it to this day, but it's worth mentioning that she spent about ten hours between the attic and the garage searching for the bin that contained the last of these stories. If Yaoi-Con was in my hometown, I think my mother would have a blast. Ah, to be fourteen again... Title: Father Figure (a.k.a. "Beverly & Picard II without Beverly") Author: Kasra Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation Rating: R. This is pr0n, folks, even if I didn't have a freakin' clue of what I was writing back then. Warnings: Bad pr0n written by an undersexed teenager. Intentionally bad porno-style spelling errors. Weird Klingon sex. (See notes on previous fic "The Naked Then" for details.) Pairing: Picard/Wesley/Worf Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, not a writer. And boy does it show. ST:TNG is not mine - it belongs to Paramount and the Roddenberry estate. And I hope to hell neither ever accidentally stumbles over this. Summary: PWP Picard/Wesley/Worf Feedback: kasra_c @ yahoo.com. I accept death threats as well. ( Father Figure )
This fic is half as old as I am and at least twice as awful as anything I've ever written, the Mary Sue fics included. There's a surprising lack of graphic sex, which is probably a good thing as I'm sure any attempt to write it would only make this disaster worse. Where some of the lines sound out of place but familiar, they have likely been ripped directly from an episode of TNG; this is a homage (ala a certain HP writer whose name I won't mention), not plagiarism, as this fic was really never intended to be read by anyone other than a small group of giggly sleep-deprived teenagers. The whole Worf/handshake thing should probably be explained now, since it's important in "Father Figure" as well. In the episode where Worf and K'Ehleyr hook up ("The Emissary"), Worf grabs her hand and molests the hell out of it. Two seasons later, she shows up with Alexander, their son. As far as we knew, the hand-grabbing thing was what passed for sex for Klingons, thus the traditional human handshaking ritual becomes something far more intimate in Klingon culture. At least, if you're an undersexed teenager watching ST:TNG re-runs. I'd apologize for this fic, but I'm not sure there's really anything I can say to make it better. Eye of Argon would be a merciful treatment. Title: The Naked Then Author: Kasra Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation Rating: PG-13 for language and innuendo Warnings: Bad pr0n written by an undersexed teenager. Lots of bad puns and inside jokes. (If you recognize a line originally from an ST:TNG episode, it's intentional.) Eye of Argon-level prose. Intentionally bad porno-style spelling errors. Remember: you're not reading this because it's good. Pairings: There's lots of them. The whole point is that people are having sex. Haven't you seen "The Naked Now"? Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, not a writer. And boy does it show. ST:TNG not mine - it belongs to Paramount and the Roddenberry estate. And I hope to hell neither ever accidentally stumbles over this. Summary: The same virus that infected the Enterprise in "The Naked Time" (TOS) and "The Naked Now" (TNG) returns with a vengeance. Too bad the crew couldn't care less about finding a cure. Everyone gets sexed up. Feedback: kasra_c @ yahoo.com. I accept death threats as well. ( The Naked Then )
Confidential Observers, if nothing else, taught me one really important lesson about writing - never, ever start writing a fanfic without knowing where you're going with it, what you want to do, and how you're going to get there. Or more simply - make certain you have a plot before you actually start. This fic was much more self-indulgent than The Z Confrontation, if only because it took forever to get to the point, and then spent a few cursory chapters defeating the baddies all-too-easily before everyone patted each other on the back and went their separate ways once again. The pacing is shot, the characters are flat, and I don't even particularly care for the plot. Why the hell did I waste so much time writing this crap? The characters Jaci, Erin Abernathy, and Myschellele were introduced in The Z Confrontation. Myschellele was actually a traitor working secretly for the enemy in the first book (he died, but she was captured) and plays a prominent role in the third book. Jen bit the big one. Adam Lance and Sylar are new characters to this book, though I don't recall basing Adam on anyone in particular, which is probably why he has all of the personality of a wooden plank. Oh yeah - and the Trilosians look really funky, which is the reason for all of the prosthetics. I think that's all of the catch-up necessary. This one's an exercise in masochism, folks. I truly loathe it, but I am unable to deny my own demonspawn. Title: Confidential Observers Author: Kasra Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation Rating: PG? Certainly no worse that PG-13 Warnings: Mary Sues galore, awful pacing, and poorly-executed bad excuse for a plot Pairings: only Data+Sarra in this one, thank god Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, not a writer. And boy does it show. ST:TNG not mine - it belongs to Paramount and the Roddenberry estate. And I hope to hell neither ever accidentally stumbles over this. Summary: The Enterprise must stop an unseen alien force from enslaving a world that holds secrets vital to the survival of the Federation. (Well, not really, but I think that was the original intent when I started writing it. *shudder*) Feedback: kasra_c@yahoo.com. I accept death threats as well. I am a woman who believes in keeping my world. Back around Christmas time, I'd promised (in my regular livejournal over at kasra_c) that in the unlikely chance that I should happen upon some of my old ST:TNG fanfiction while I was home for Christmas, I would re-type a couple chapters of it and post it on my writing journal. So when starherd handed back my old binder yesterday containing my first three fanfics - written more than ten years ago, at this point - it was time for me to own up. Unfortunately (?), I don't have book 4 handy, which I promise is even more spectacularly bad than the first three combined. When we finally make our fateful move across the country, one of the first boxes I plan to ask my mother to dig out will be my old fic box. With any luck "Father Figure" will be in there as well, which has a special place in my heart as my very first slash fic ever written (Picard/Wesley, awww yeah!) Incidentally, to give one tiny incentive to torture yourself reading this, it finally explains the origin of that pesky "c" in kasra_c. Not that anyone much cared, but hey, another mystery solved. Title: The Z Confrontation Author: Kasra Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation Rating: PG? Certainly no worse that PG-13 Warnings: Urg, I think I can probably cover it all in two words - MARY SUES Pairings: I'm too ashamed to list them all, but probably the most heinous of them is the Data+Sarra in the fic Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, not a writer. And boy does it show. ST:TNG not mine - it belongs to Paramount and the Roddenberry estate. And I hope to hell neither ever accidentally stumbles over this. Summary: Commander Riker must find a way to destroy the Z space station or else watch helplessly as it destroys two worlds and the Enterprise. (Yes, I wrote that when I was in 9th grade. Kill me now.) Feedback: kasra_c@yahoo.com. I accept death threats as well. ( Pass the sporks! 'The Z Confrontation: Chapters 8 and 9' )Kill me now.
I get all silly and nostalgic every time I re-read the epilogue. I have a lot of memories tied to this fanfic, and I'm shamelessly proud of it, even with all of its flaws. I played with a couple of literary devices while writing it. I experimented with writing a fic completely in third-person limited from one person's perspective (Ken's), and in storytelling through indirect detail over exposition. Additionally, all of the bridging chapters (even-numbered chapters + the prologue and epilogue) are a sort of apostrophe, with Ken addressing the absent souls in the graveyard. Anyhow, enough of my literary wank. Here's the end, as promised. No sequels, no prequels, no side-stories. I'm quite satisfied with where and how it ends. And yes, LC, I know my sap sucks hard. Pretty damn hard, I might add. ^_~ Title: Talking To The Dead Author: Kasra Fandom: Weiss Kreuz Gluhen Rating: R Warnings: AU/AT Weiss Kreuz Gluhen; angst; weirdness; death?; spoilers for Omi's past Pairings: KenOmi Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, not an anime producer. Hence, I don't own 'em. I'm just playing nicely with them for a little bit. Summary: When Weiss re-forms under tragic circumstances, Ken struggles through a web of lies to discover the truth behind his comrade's death. Feedback: kasra_c@yahoo.com ( Talking To The Dead: Epilogue )...and that's all she wrote. Inspirations for this fic - other than the Christmas Eve drive to my grandparents in Pittsburgh back in 2002 - are VNV Nation's vocal version of "Forsaken", and the Cruxshadows' "Return (Coming Home)". Specifically, the concept behind the "Coming Home" anime music video (AMV) was based off of Omi's side of the story ("Forsaken" is Ken's story). The vid can be downloaded here, or off of me on AIM. I'll probably put it up on glowingcross.net in a couple of weeks as well. And now to get back to all of my other Works In Progress. ^_^;
In the process of writing this fic, there ended up being a lot of little loose ends that I'd intended to wrap up, but when I'd gotten to the proper place in the text to do it, the explanation would seem out of place, or events had deviated such from the original plotline that it would no longer make sense that Ken would come to the same conclusion I'd originally had him come to. ( Cut for Talking To The Dead spoilers )I don't think the text suffers from not including these details - in fact, I think forcing the reader to make their own conclusions enhances the effect of the story. I'd rather leave a few loose ends dangling than ruin the feel of the story just because I insisted on explaining every damned thing. And if it's really that important you know - hell, just ask me. God knows I love to wank on and on chat about my fics. ^_~ Title: Talking To The Dead Author: Kasra Fandom: Weiss Kreuz Gluhen Rating: R Warnings: AU/AT Weiss Kreuz Gluhen; angst; weirdness; death?; spoilers for Omi's past Pairings: KenOmi Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, not an anime producer. The mission chapter. This being my first real attempt at writing a mission-in-progress, I can now understand why so many Weiss Kreuz ficcers just stick with the flowershop, AUs, or outright avoid writing missions. Action is difficult to write, if you don't have a gift for it. There's a delicate balance that needs to be maintained between having enough detail to picture what's going on in the story, while not bogging things down in too much detail and killing the pacing. I'd gone back and re-read many action-based fics before writing this chapter, to try to get a feel for that balance. Then I sat down and thought through the entire scene in my head, working everything through from Ken's P.O.V. The final scene of the chapter was actually the first scene fully plotted out in this fic. Dialogue I used in it was written out in my first plot outline for the story - I'd known *exactly* where I was going from the start - it was all just a matter of getting there. Oh yeah - and the line 'It was a testament to Sena's agility that he danced away from the lethal slash completely unscathed' - was a deliberate nod to "Swap Meet". I couldn't help myself; the damn line wrote itself into the fic. ^_~ Title: Talking To The Dead Author: Kasra Fandom: Weiss Kreuz Gluhen Rating: R Warnings: AU/AT Weiss Kreuz Gluhen; angst; weirdness; death?; spoilers for Omi's past; additional warning for violent imagery in this chapter Pairings: eventual shounen-ai, and that's all I'm gonna say Disclaimer: I'm an engineer, not an anime producer. Short chapter, not much to say here. I'd outlined the scene very differently when I'd originally outlined the whole fic, so when things started changing on me (no, Ken was not originally supposed to break his fingers, trust me), I spent a few days debating whether or not I was going to even bother with this chapter. There really wasn't much to it, but there were a couple of things I still had left to say before the mission, and I wasn't sure I'd get them in otherwise. In the end I wrote it because it worked. I'd wanted to keep the theme of alternating chapters of plot and scenes in the graveyard, and while this is not how the scene originally worked out in my head, I do think it's better - if rather short. But there's something to be said for knowing when you've written just the right amount for effect - any longer, and I'm certain it would have dragged. Probably the most consistent complaint I've received about this fic over time (other than the "Ewwwww, Gluhen! Yuck!" which I ignore) has been my characterization of Rex. So just to clear the slate here, let me state something for the record: I like Rex. I think she's an awesome character, and I really like the way she interacts with Persia in Gluhen. I'd actually be hard-pressed to tell you whether I liked Manx or Rex better; there's something about what Rex says in her silence that's much more powerful than when she speaks aloud. I think she's a worthy heir to the position she's in. However, things becomes distorted when you see them through another character's eyes. While I might like Rex, she and Ken have clashed since day 1 of this story, and it's only natural that given the circumstances they continue to encounter each other by, and their own personal priorities, that they continue to clash. As such, I don't feel that I've bastardized her at all - I feel that this is the way she would have reacted, given everything that's happened. It's Ken's own myopic vision that distorts his perception of her. I honestly don't doubt that Manx or Birman would have reacted the same, given similar circumstances. This was the hardest chapter in this fic for me to write. I'd raced through the first few chapters, got a little stuck on 4 and even more on 5, but when it came time to write 6, it took massive willpower to get me through this chapter. I recall spending more than a week during the evenings trying to chew it out, and constantly hitting brick walls. I deliberately angered myself, deliberately made myself cry, deliberately screwed my emotions for the 1-2 weeks it took me to write it. Granted, by the time I was done with this chapter, I didn't need to encourage the frustration I felt by any means. It was quite genuine. Somewhere around the time I posted this chapter, my life fell apart for the first (but not the last) time in 2003. I attribute that more than anything else for being the reason this fic was put on hold for 7 months, while I regained my footing beneath me. Perhaps if I hadn't been coming off of such a difficult chapter, it wouldn't have been nearly so hard to get back into it again. But on the other hand, had I not taken that break, I probably never would have gotten around to writing Swap Meet with Lady Cosmos, and who knows when I would have gotten around to finishing the Killer Smile AMV. So all's well that ends well - even the fic that was finished nine months after it was started. I know absolutely nothing about flowers, but a website that sells freesia in the Netherlands sells 'em year-round, and what would a flowershop be without a greenhouse for that sort of thing? Okay, so maybe I cheated, but I tried to at least put a little more thought into the flowers than most WK writers - I actually bothered to find pictures of every flower mentioned in this fic, and determine if it would be realistic for the Koneko to stock it. Unfortunately, sometimes getting the properly symbolism means compromising on the actual beauty of the flower in question, but, hell, Ken's a florist, he can figure this stuff out. Don't look at me - I'm just the medium for his yappin'. I still look back in amazement when I think about how this story was written. The last time I'd had a story write itself so easily, I was 14 years old and writing a bad ST:TNG revenge fic with a whole crew of Mary Sues dominating the story. I'd like to think this fic is better than "Cry of the Unheard", but given the fact that I'm fairly certain I'm the only person on this planet who has read both of them, I can't exactly get an objective opinion on it. But someday... *rubs hands together*... someday I'll get my hands on a copy of that damn story again (even if I have to print it on my parents' old Commodore 128 and re-type it by hand) and I'll share the torment post it here for comparison's sake. Then everyone can learn the true shameful (not-so-)secret origin of my penname. It turns out I had to change the nameserver data for glowingcross.net myself. It would have been nice of them to at least tell me which nameservers to set them to. Ah well, the problem was resolved with a five minute call to tech support and the deed is done. All that remains is for the nameserver data to propagate... another 24 to 72 hour wait, unfortunately. And notfoo goes down on Thursday, so even if it does propagate in time, I probably shouldn't post the contest until the WK AMV page is visible again. Bleh. Too complicated... Still waiting on pair networks to update the DNS information so that glowingcross.net actually displays my new Gluhen archive site, but in the meantime, what better way to herald the coming of the future archive than by posting my first Gluhen fic? Well, okay, so I've whored this poor fic around to everyone and their mother, so I'll be surprised if this is actually new to anyone reading this fic journal. I'm unabashedly proud of it, even if it really doesn't have a whole lot in common with Weiss Kreuz Gluhen itself, beyond a shared cast and a couple of minor spoilers. It all came about from The Plotbunny That Wouldn't Die - namely, when I'd seen all of maybe four episodes of Gluhen, and my brain decided it was going to explain away all of the reasons things were the way they were in Gluhen. In the end, I was wrong. Very wrong. But I sure as hell had a good time writing this fic. Even if Crazy Gluhen Ken wouldn't stop yappin' in my head for nearly nine months straight.
